The project is coordinated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ugent.be\/en\">Ghent University<\/a>, together with 19 participating partners, from 12 European countries. Biosecurity is critical for management of animal health and disease control however, implementation at farm level often&nbsp;remains insufficient. Therefore, the objective of the BIOSECURE project is to enable decision makers in livestock farming to understand, prioritise and implement evidence-based, cost effective and sustainable biosecurity management systems. This will be carried out through various work packages and tasks that include:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<style>\n#col-664075205 > .col-inner {\n  padding: 5% 5% 5% 5%;\n}\n<\/style>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n\n\t<div id=\"col-1928254951\" class=\"col medium-6 small-12 large-6\"  >\n\t\t<div class=\"col-inner\"  >\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\n\t<div class=\"img has-hover x md-x lg-x y md-y lg-y\" id=\"image_1648665056\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"img-inner dark\" >\n\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"572\" src=\"https:\/\/simherd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/egon-og-bjarke-1024x574.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/simherd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/egon-og-bjarke-1024x574.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/simherd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/egon-og-bjarke-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/simherd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/egon-og-bjarke-768x430.jpg 768w, https:\/\/simherd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/egon-og-bjarke-1536x861.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/simherd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/egon-og-bjarke.jpg 1916w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<style>\n#image_1648665056 {\n  width: 100%;\n}\n<\/style>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 105%;\">i) reviewing the current understanding of biosecurity throughout the livestock production chain <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 105%;\">ii) quantifying the impact of biosecurity practices on the prevention of infection and spread of disease\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 105%;\">iii) enhancing current biosecurity measures, as well as expanding on these by carrying out field studies and performing experiments. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 105%;\">iv) the socio-economic impact of the BIOSECURE project will be assessed <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 105%;\">v) stakeholder engagement will be facilitated to support knowledge transfer and implementation of key exploitable results. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 105%;\">SimHerd will participate in the cost benefit analysis of the biosecurity measures in dairy cattle herd. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 105%;\">The new or enhanced biosecurity management systems developed in the BIOSECURE project will help farmers of various animal species (pigs, poultry, cattle, small ruminants) and of different production types (indoor -outdoor) to keep animals healthy.
